2010 Spring Concert Sunday, May 23, 2010 @ 3:00 pm The New Orleans Concert Band is very proud to feature guest soloist Robert Nunez, principal tuba of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and low brass instructor at the University of New Orleans.
Mr. Nunez will perform a transcription for tuba of the Concerto No. 1 in E-flat for Horn by Richard Strauss. (Link to Mr Nunez' website.) The program, conducted by Dr. Charles Taylor, will include works by William Schuman, Morton Gould, John Philip Sousa, and Richard Rogers.
Latrobe’s on Royal Presents the New Orleans Concert Band
Don’t miss the New Orleans Concert Band this Sunday, April 11, at Latrobe’s on Royal Open House! The French Quarter festivities begin at noon and feature performances of favorite Swing, Big Band, and Broadway tunes, plus a few surprises. Mid-Spring Concert March 21, 2010 3:00 PM The Mid-Spring concert by the New Orleans Concert Band is pleased to feature guest conductor Frank Wickes, honoring him on the occasion of his retirement.
Mr. Wickes, one of the major national figures in the field of wind bands and wind conducting, has been director of bands at Louisiana State University since 1980 and is retiring at the end of the year. (link to LSU School of Music) The program will include Suite from “Mass” by Leonard Bernstein, Chant Funeraire by Gabriel Faure, and Sabre and Spurs by John Philip Sousa. Dr. Charles Taylor, the regular conductor of the New Orleans Concert Band will conduct the remainder of the program, including works by Sir Arthur Sullivan, Samuel Barber, J.S. Bach, and Alfred Reed. Robert Longfield) Funiculi Funicula (Luigi Denza, arr. Alfred Reed) Our performance home is the Recital Hall at the University of New Orleans Performing Arts Center, located on the campus at the University of New Orleans on the lakefront.
